We really like Maldives, a destination we regularly travel to. Hence, we are quite familiar with this heavenly destination and its fabulous hotel-islands. From Malé’s airport, the trip takes 45 minutes with seaplane, enough time so to seize the opportunity to contemplate breathtaking atolls from the sky.
What makes Soneva Fushi stand out from its competitors is the journey itself. Not only have we stayed in this out-of-this-world venue, but we also experienced unforgettable moments, made of several marks of attentions, incredible surprises and enjoyable activities, each more original than the next.
Among the forever-lasting memories, there was the snorkelling outing where we swam among hundreds of manta rays. Our son Achille came with us and the marine biologist leading the tour took him under her wing. We will cherish this moment forever.
We very much enjoyed our outdoor movie-lunch experience. Under the stars, we watched a touching movie about an Indian cook family relocating to a Southern France small village. Not only was the story moving but we were also offered the dishes at the exact moment of their appearance in the movie!
And what about the breakfast, taken in a Zipline-accessible tree branches-located hut, and the drinks we had on an Indian ocean-remote sand beach and the vegan appetizers savored in the middle of the candle-lit vegetable garden… An unbelievable experience.
One evening, after dinner, we were invited to observe stars with an astronomer. Thanks to a professional telescope, we spotted Saturn and Jupiter! It was the first time ever we watched planets, such a blessing. As a curious and always-on-the-move person, I was thrilled by those numerous happenings that delighted us during our holidays.
The hotel is conceived as a traditional built-in-the-jungle wood and rock village. To reach some of the spots, you must ride a bike, take a rope bridge or follow a torch-illuminated path, carving the feeling of being in perfect harmony with Mother Nature.
The villa we stayed in had a pool and a giant slide, as well as a stand-out bedding.
The kids-club was simply amazing. The place was full of open and closed spaces: resting room, movie theater, wading pool, securised pool, pirate boat, disguise clothes room, football ground, Lego room, music studio… There even was a vegetable garden and a kid-friendly kitchen so they could learn how to make pastries. The activities focus on the development of the child, the respect of the environment as well as discovering local culture. Achille enjoyed a craft lesson and came back with a Maldivian lucky charm that decorates his room at home.
For more than 25 years, Soneva has been at the forefront of eco-responsible luxury. It’s not about gold and marble, instead it’s the pleasure of walking bare-foot, taste fresh local-made dishes, consult an Ayurvedic doctor before your spa session, discover the island’s plants and animals with wildlife guide or enjoy a starred-chef dinner with your feet in the sand.
Talking about chef, the food was delicious and diversified. The dishes and wine premium price were easily justified by the quality of catering and the incredible gastronomic journey we experienced. To avoid unpleasant surprises, I would recommend choosing the full board formula.
We will keep unforgettable memories from our stay in Soneva Fushi. We felt blessed for living such amazing moments and sharing them with our son. It was a unique experience that I trully recommend once in your lifetime, you will not be disappointed!
Enjoy your holidays!
Jérôme
