A timeless stay at Shandrani Beachcomber

In the heart of winter, being able to escape to the southern hemisphere for a real family holiday in the sun is a real pleasure. And when it is in Mauritius and one of the most beautiful hotels there, the Shandrani Beachcomber Resort Spa, it is even better! Here is the story of a successful stay with my husband and three children.

To reach the Shandrani, it is very simple, since it is located at the south-eastern point of the island and is very close to the international airport. The taxi that was waiting for us on arrival took only a few minutes to take us to our destination.

We were given a super warm welcome! Fruity cocktails to refresh us after the long journey, little attentions for the children – whom we even greeted by their first names -, everything was done to make us feel at ease from the first minutes in the hotel. As for our luggage, it was obviously taken to our room.

For this holiday, Little Guest had booked us a beautiful two-bedroom family flat with a sea view and direct access to a furnished terrace overlooking a lovely garden. This very spacious accommodation is perfectly designed for families, as it has two separate bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms. It is ideal for both young and old to feel at home.

The rooms are practical and elegant, with large exotic wood wardrobes and soft beds, and everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bunk bed and the single bed were very suitable for children.

We had a great time at Shandrani! With 6 restaurants, there is something for everyone. Mediterranean cuisine, Thai cuisine, seafood specialities specific to Mauritius, as well as a « healthy » restaurant based on local cuisine and designed by a dedicated chef in collaboration with the Spa team, everything is possible. The service is warm and friendly, and the attention is naturally turned towards the little ones, there are dedicated accessories and high chairs, and it is possible to ask for particular dishes if necessary.

In the evening, the hotel organises concerts and themed shows, some of which are designed for children. Ours didn’t take part, but there was a lovely fashion show organised in conjunction with the hotel’s boutique. Very nice!

At this hotel, everything is done to satisfy the little ones. There are two beautiful pools, both of which are child-friendly, with shallow water near the edges and lifeguards to watch over the bathers.

There is a lovely kids’ club for children aged 3 to 11, and creative workshops and lots of games are organised there. While Leo preferred to stay with me and my husband, our two daughters had a great time with other little holidaymakers, and they all had the opportunity to get close to the turtles.

But one of the undeniable assets of Mauritius is obviously its infinite possibilities in terms of water sports and sea excursions. We even saw children taking sailing lessons and kayaking, well looked after by coaches and animators.

For one day, we embarked on an unforgettable outing to Ile aux Cerfs by catamaran, to discover its magnificent lagoon with turquoise waters. The crew was very kind to us, because even before leaving, they had already grilled small sausages for the hungry children. On the spot, an afternoon of snorkelling and lazing around in an idyllic setting, which will remain engraved in our memories!

Before leaving, we knew that the island was promising, and we have a great experience as travellers, but this is honestly the first time in my life that we have nothing to say about the stay! Everything was perfect. Mauritius is amazing, the Mauritians are amazing, and Little Guest and Beachcomber are amazing.

If you are looking for a comfortable destination, with services and activities for young and old, the Shandrani is a wonderful place to stay.
